In November 2020, for the first time in more than two decades, the State Board of Education updated the minimum curriculum standards that guide sex education in Texas.
New standards include medically accurate information about topics such as contraception, prevention of sexually transmitted infections, and healthy relationships offered at the middle and high school level.
The Texas is Ready coalition worked tirelessly to support improvements to the minimum standards guiding the delivery of sexual health education for Texas’ 5.4 million K-12 students. The coalition is composed of three organizations – the Texas Campaign, Healthy Futures of Texas, and the North Texas Alliance to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy in Teens (NTARUPT).
