The South Texas Adolescent Health Summit will be a virtual event, hosted on Oct. 26, 27, & 28, 2020 that will offer networking, discussions, and presentations to 150+ youth-serving professionals from South Texas. The focus of this event will be on positive youth development and improving adolescent health. The goal of the Summit is to increase knowledge, skills, and abilities among adults who provide services and support to adolescents on the Texas – Mexico Border about adolescent development, positive youth development, adolescent-friendly services, and how to apply the quality components of care through the stages of adolescence.

The objectives of the 2020 South Texas Adolescent Health Summit are to:

  • Provide the latest information on teen pregnancy, reproductive health and adolescent development that is appropriate for the diverse knowledge base and skills of participants;
  • Increase participant knowledge regarding evidence-informed interventions focused on culturally competent care for medically underserved adolescents living in South Texas;
  • Share best practices for promoting adolescent and child health, youth-friendly services and trauma-informed care and to explore innovative programs of each;
  • Identify and invest in youth and young adult voices to draw in those who are directly affected by adolescent health advocacy; and
  • Raise awareness of continuing disparities in reproductive and adolescent health care access and outcomes that persist in many communities within Texas.

Communities thrive when they are happy and healthy. Youth service professionals benefit from education on a host of issues, and prevention strategies are about engaging the adults and organizations that are best positioned to support youth in this effort. This regional summit is one approach for tackling these issues.
